Rothbard on Kolko

As Kolko pointed out, all the various measures of federal regulation and welfare statism that left and right alike have always believed to be mass movements against Big Business are not only now backed to the hilt by Big Business, but were originated by it for the very purpose of shifting from a free market to a cartelized economy that would benefit it. Imperialistic foreign policy and the permanent garrison state originated in the Big Business drive for foreign investments and for war contracts at home.

The role of the liberal intellectuals is to serve as "corporate liberals," weavers of sophisticated apologias to inform the masses that the heads of the American corporate state are ruling on behalf of the "common good" and the "general welfare"—like the priest in the Oriental despotism who convinced the masses that their emperor was all-wise and divine.

Negative interest rates put world on course for biggest mass default in history

What makes today’s negative interest rate environment so worrying is this; to the extent that demand is growing at all in the world economy, it seems again to be almost entirely dependent on rising levels of debt.

The Old Models Of Work Are Broken

The conventional employee gets no ownership of their work, and this disconnect between the employee and the value created by the employee's labor is the source of Marx's definition of alienation: the worker is alienated from the output of his/her labor, which is owned by others.

Jefferson to Albert Gallatin 13 jan 1803

there is no constitutional difficulty as to the acquisition of territory, and whether, when acquired, it may be taken into the Union by the Constitution as it now stands, will become a question of expediency. I think it will be safer not to permit the enlargement of the Union but by amendment of the Constitution

Auschwitz guard says he shares moral guilt, but judges must decide if he committed crime

Groening described the arrival of transports of Jewish prisoners in detail, and recalled an incident in late 1942 in which another SS man smashed a baby against a truck, “and his crying stopped.” He said he was “shocked” and the following day asked a lieutenant for a transfer, which wasn’t granted.

Groening testified that he volunteered to join the SS in 1940 after training as a banker, and served at Auschwitz from 1942 to 1944. He didn’t mention directly participating in any atrocities and said he unsuccessfully sought a transfer after witnessing one.

Critics say Richardson’s revitalization has little to show

With only 5 percent of vacant land remaining, Richardson officials say this type of dense, urban-style development is the future for the city.  “Cities change,” Mayor Laura Maczka said. “We have to anticipate what’s coming.”

With only 6 percent of vacant land remaining, Richardson officials say their challenge is to safeguard the city’s roots while planning for the future.
Maczka said an urban-style environment is vital to attracting young workers who have little desire for a typical suburban lifestyle with gas-guzzling cars and single-family homes. Many are looking for employment hubs where they can live, work and play, she said.
She recalls hearing the head of a high-tech company say he’d just hired an employee who arrived in Richardson with “two bikes and a dog.”
“This is the epitome of the new workforce,” the mayor said.
