How the great depression affected small businesses

  https://biziq.com/blog/american-small-businesses-past-present-and-future/

Small businesses suffered great losses during the Dust Bowl and the subsequent Great Depression during the 1930s. From 1929 to 1933, manufacturing productivity decreased by a third, while prices fell by 20%, causing severe deflation. Unemployment skyrocketed from 4% to 25%. In 1931 alone, 28,285 businesses failed, at a rate of 133 a day. Most of these were small businesses.

“What if Rome no longer wants to be Roman?”: Interview with Martin Mosebach

The image of the papacy that emerged after the First Vatican Council, which saw the pope become an autocrat in all spiritual and juridical matters of the Church, does not correspond to the tradition of the Church. The papal office is not an absolute monarchy: precisely in its claim to infallibility, it is strictly bound to tradition, to what the Church has always taught and done.

Religion in Sweden

Norse beliefs persisted until the 12th century, and Sweden was the last Scandinavian country to be Christianised by Catholic missionaries. In 1164, it became a so-called ecclesiastical province of the Catholic Church and Catholicism became firmly established.Aug 19, 2021

What happened to Vikings?

 1066

The Viking age ended when the raids stopped. The year 1066 is frequently used as a convenient marker for the end of the Viking age. At the Battle of Stamford Bridge, the Norwegian king Haraldr harðráði was repulsed and killed as he attempted to reclaim a portion of England.
More and more Norsemen converted telling the Vikings to stop pillaging and all and people started defending their coasts

What makes a choice a moral choice?

"Here we find the realm of human freedom seen in acts put into existence by our choices. These choices need not exist; we could have done something else in each instance of their coming to be. Each of them, until the instant of their doing, could have been otherwise. This fact that they could have been otherwise, but that we make them to be this way or that, is the foundation for our responsibility for them, why we can be praised or blamed for them.

... Human acts that are, but need not be ... is what is generally understood to be the sphere of morality or ethics.... All real drama and risk in the world are based on this possibility of something initially not needing to exist, but when it does, the consequences follow from the act.

... What we consider as needing to exist are the consequences  flowing from free acts, both good and evil, once they are chosen and put into effect.... We do not understand human acts ... unless we understand them as freely aligning themselves for or against the norm of what is good order. This is why all human actions are worthy of praise or blame because of the content put freely into them by the human decision that brought them about in the first place."

James V. Schall, S.J., The Order of Things, 89-90.

Black homeless man, 39, arrested for stabbing 14-year-old to death in random attack called Florida deputy 'white devil' and told white cops he did it because 'of what they did to black people about giving them syphilis': Vast criminal history for violence and robbery revealed

 https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10297437/Black-homeless-man-stabbed-boy-14-death-called-deputy-white-devil.html

The study initially involved 600 Black men – 399 with syphilis, 201 who did not have the disease. Participants’ informed consent was not collected. Researchers told the men they were being treated for “bad blood,” a local term used to describe several ailments, including syphilis, anemia, and fatigue. In exchange for taking part in the study, the men received free medical exams, free meals, and burial insurance.

By 1943, penicillin was the treatment of choice for syphilis and becoming widely available, but the participants in the study were not offered treatment.

On the morning of February 20, 1976, Black and Irwin approached a car parked at a rest stop for a routine check. Tafero, his [girlfriend] Sonia "Sunny" Jacobs, their two children (ages 9 years and 10 months) and Walter Rhodes were found asleep inside. Tafero had previously been in prison and was on probation. Black saw a gun lying on the floor inside the car. He woke the occupants and had first Rhodes then Tafero come out of the car.

According to Rhodes, Tafero then shot both Black and Irwin with the gun (which was legally registered to Jacobs who bought guns on behalf of Tafero – he couldn't legally obtain a license because of his record) and led the others into the police car to flee the scene. According to Tafero, Rhodes shot the officers and handed the gun to him so that Rhodes could drive.[2]

They later disposed of the police car and kidnapped a man and stole his car. All three were arrested after being caught in a roadblock. When they were arrested, the gun was found in Tafero's waistband.

Kant and Happiness

"The problem of determining surely and universally which action would promote the happiness of a rational being is completely insoluble."  "...happiness is not an ideal of reason but of imagination."
