The subtext that nobody says out loud is that, apparently, commercial driver’s licenses have basically been a jobs program for illegal aliens or immigrants here under temporary asylum visas. Trucking companies don’t mind because these drivers are cheaper than Americans. Removing these unqualified drivers will boost wages for real ones who can read the signs. Secretary Duffy warned, “Don’t hire people who can’t speak English or can’t read English, or you’re all going to be subject to this task force.”
